My new personal website is finally under construction! [https://quincyaflint.github.io]
I have been wanting to create and host my own basic website for about 5 years now. This Weebly website has been very nice and easy to customize, so I can post new content quickly, but I have far less control over the layout and the directory structure. The new site is hosted by Git Hub. I am using the Bootstrap CSS as my design template and have written the HTML myself. I don't like all the extra jazz of the Bootstrap CSS and may ditch it for my own in the future. I'm still remembering how to use the style sheets effectively and am getting up to speed with some of the new features since I first learned to write HTML and CSS. Here's the link to the new page. I may slowly start to migrate to the new site as I become more proficient at writing my own website code.

This map shows a listing of homes located in the historic districts of Gainesville including the Dockpond Historic District, the Southeast Historic District, and Pleasant Street Historic District. The information about these houses was obtained from Ben Pickard's book Historic Alachua County and old Gainesville: A tour guide to the past.
This post has moved to my Travel page and further updates will be shared there!
I'm sure the website has gone seemingly quiet, but I am constantly adding to my "music" section! I have been very busy trying to graduate and when I have free time I spend it playing music. All is well, I hope to add more content in the near future.
I am reading Chronicles, Volume 1 by Bob Dylan. This book details some of Dylan's pivotal moments in his career (while skipping what would have been many interesting periods altogether). Part way through I decided to make note of the the people, songs, and places that he cites. Some songs were mentioned by name, others were cited in reference. On June 1st, 2019 I passed the Amateur Radio Relay League Technician Class exam. I will be free to transmit once my information has been entered into the FCC database. At that time I will also receive my official call sign! Preparing for the ExamI prepared for the exam by reading one of the amateur radio books suggested by the ARRL. This book gives a good introduction to the subject with limited in-depth technical information. To pass the test on your first try you will want to go over the questions from the question pool. The real exam is composed of a subset of 35 questions from the question pool. You must answer at least 26/35 questions correctly to pass the technician class exam. You really need to know your electronics to pass the more advanced licensing exams.
Tech Question Pool You've probably seen the Dos Equis commercials about the most interesting man in the world, but you may have forgotten about the REAL most interesting man. Watch the original ad first, then see how my version compares! OrigiNAL CommercialMy takeI spent a weekend making this a couple of years ago after the new face of Dos Equis first appeared. Enjoy!
You've heard the phrase " actions speak louder than words," but have you heard:
"ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN INTENTIONS" or did I just make it up? I'm going to start using this more frequently! I graduated this weekend with a master's degree in computer engineering from the University of Florida. My parents flew in from South Dakota to help me celebrate! I am currently still at UF and continue to work toward my PhD. This was a small step along the way that has given me a sense of accomplishment, having spent about 3 years now in Florida. I was also initiated into the Order of the Engineer, a society dedicated to upholding a sense of moral obligation within the profession. The origins lie in the aftermath of a collapsed bridge in Canada which serves as a reminder of the importance of the responsibilities and obligations of an engineer. |
